Through my artwork, I connect with what is noble, graceful, whimsical, free, fierce, powerful, loving or heroic in us all. I like to think of this collection of qualities as “The Wild Divine”. Using my intuition, I make sculptures and paintings with the intent to embody those qualities, and to entice individuals to enjoy the Wild Divine within themselves. I draw primarily upon the natural animal world for subjects, but sometimes wander through the realm of western mythology for symbols that may communicate an idea more effectively.
I use photographs, drawings, anatomy books and direct observation to convey the form and action of my subjects. I rely on intuition and imagination for the details of setting, color, texture, and posture to convey the inner essence as best I can. I reach for painting materials to tell the quieter tales, and for sculpture materials to illustrate the more dramatic stories.
I feel honored and grateful to celebrate the gift of life through the creation of my art; however, sharing the fruits of my talents with people who enjoy them is as meaningful to me as creating the art for its own sake. Because the making and sharing are so deeply entwined for me, I like to treat people as extended family whether they are collector clients or not. I sincerely hope that my care and appreciation for people and our natural world comes through in the work I feel inspired to create.
